About FCIT

Faculty Overview
The Faculty of Computers and Information Technology (FCIT) was founded in 2006 at Future University in Egypt with a main mandate of providing high-quality educational opportunities to students from all segments of Egyptian society as well as from other countries, and to contribute to Egypt’s development, culture, intellectual life, and services for Egypt and the region. FCIT offers programs at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The mission of FCIT is to provide a high-quality Computing and Information Technology educational environment with the aim to produce valued professionals in the field of computing and IT who will be productive leaders in their profession. Students are educated to acquire an appreciation of their responsibilities to society and to prepare themselves for successful careers and leadership. FCIT maintains high standards of academic achievement, professional behavior, and ethical conduct.

FCIT Educational Outcomes

Consequently, FCIT has set the following Educational Outcomes for all FCIT students:

1. Professional Skills - FUE graduates will synthesize discipline-based knowledge with a broad-based liberal arts and professional education. They will be proficient in the tools of their discipline as well as the tools of research and learning; make decisions that reflect the highest standards of ethical conduct and professional behavior; and understand the importance of life-long learning.

2. Advanced Communication Skills - FCIT graduates will be fluent in English and will be able to write and speak effectively in a variety of settings. FUE graduates will be able to communicate in Arabic, establish rapport in groups, be adaptable to new circumstances, work both independently and in collaboration with others, and function effectively as leaders.

3. Critical Thinking - FCIT graduates will be independent learners, adept at using current technologies to access information and applying strong quantitative, analytical, and critical thinking skills to analyze and synthesize complex information to solve problems.

4. Cultural Competence – FCIT graduates will have an understanding and appreciation of Egyptian and Arab culture and heritage, as well as an understanding of international interdependence, cultural diversity, and consideration for values and traditions that may differ from their own. In addition, FUE graduates will have an aesthetic awareness of the various modes of human artistic expression and will be able to collaborate effectively in a multicultural context.

5. Effective Citizenship – FCIT graduates value service to their local community and to broader causes at the national and international level.

FCIT Departments, Programs and Degrees

The Faculty of Computers and Information Technology at FUE includes three academic departments, each is running one program offering one degree:

1. Computer Science department, running Computer Science program and offering a Bachelor of Computers and Information Technology with a major in Computer Science

2. Information Systems department, running Information Systems program, offering a Bachelor of Computers and Information Technology with a major in Information Systems.

3. Digital Media Technology department, running Digital Media Technology program, offering a Bachelor of Computers and Information Technology with a major in Digital Media Technology.

In addition, FCIT offers the following postgraduate degrees:

1. Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Computer Science.
2. Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Information Systems.
3. Academic Diploma in Artificial Intelligence.

System of Study

The system of a study is a credit Hour system. The total credit hour requirements of the bachelor’s degree are 133 credit hours. A regular student can achieve the 133 credit hour requirements in four academic years (8 semesters). A course of 3 credit hours is delivered as 2 hours theoretical lecture teaching and 2 hours practical/tutorial session (4 contact hours).

The curriculum of each program (Computer Science, Information Systems and Digital Media Technology) is structured to be consistent with the educational objectives of FCIT. The curriculum combines technical and professional requirements with general education requirements and electives to prepare students for a professional career and further study in the computing discipline associated with the program, and for functioning in modern society. The technical and professional requirements include two years of up-to-date coverage of basic and advanced topics in the computing discipline associated with each program. In addition, each program includes mathematics and physics appropriate to the discipline. The curriculum of each FCIT program divided into three components as shown in following table.
